Takatāpui Series 5

Video Preview: Episode 15

Takatāpui takes a further look at the status of homophobic hate crimes in New Zealand. We attend the Wellington ‘All Our Rights’ rally and memorial to those who have died at the hands of hate and gathering to highlight the need to abolish the Homosexual Panic Defence.

We interview one of the rally organisers Ronald Nelson, who is also the writer and director of ‘Corner of 4am and Cuba’ a recent play that commemorated the tragically short life of Jeff Whittington, who was murdered in 1999 at the age of 14.

We also spend time with friends and family of Stanley Waipouri who help us pay tribute to this takatāpui man who died in December 2006 at the age of 39, after an aggravated assault.

Also in the programme Takacam and Newswrap.
