Ki Tai, Ki Uta meets a small whanau who are trialling a crop that they believe has the potential to become a major player in the Maori economy – hemp.

Hemp is a controversial product, because it belongs to the same wider family of plants as cannabis. But its fibre can be used in a number of ways – to make clothing, furniture and housing insulation, while its oils can be used in paints and beauty products, and overseas its seeds have been used in health foods.
